Getting Settled

May 29th –  May 31st

The Memorial Day weekend nor’easter stopped us in our tracks.  Three or four inches of rain, along with three or four days of up 30 knot winds had the seas whipped into frenzy.  It was our hope to arrive early and have a better chance at a protected mooring, but Provincetown would have to wait on us for a few days for us.  There was no way we were going to risk it.  The good news was that we were all packed and ready to go, so we really had an enjoyable weekend riding the storm out at the beach in Hull with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law.

The Thursday before Memorial Day was glorious

Krisanngria was speedy today-only eight hours to PTown on glassy seas.   It would have been a perfect day to see whales.  Unfortunately, the only wildlife that appeared were a few seals that popped up their canine-like heads as we neared PTown.  We lunched at the ‘Pot as is our tradition when we first arrive in town.   We like to say hi to Marie and Cassie, our favorite bartenders. We also like see if Rob from Arnold’s Bike shop is there is in his customary afternoon perch and have a couple of mojitos while we are at it.   Marie alone was there and it was like we never left.  But we were lucky to be able to sit in her station. The Lobster Pot is still enforcing many of the now-lifted COVID rules.  I enjoyed the Cape Cod Reuben, but the rules…not so much.   But, they are just doing what they think is right for them in this strange time and that is good.

Tonight we had drinks with our new friends Dave and Susan on “Relentless”, their remarkable Sabre 48 flybridge.  Dave had made reservations at Pepe’s and invited us to tag along, but first insisted on a little bit of pre-gaming.  Dave, amongst his many accomplishments is a musician and broke out his guitar for an impromptu sing along which we sadly had to break up to meet our reservation time.

Today we had our first “should we hop on the ferry and go home discussion”.  The weather was miserable cold, damp, and windy.  But rather than move ourselves, we moved the boat to a sheltered slip for two nights.  There we plugged in, turned the heater on, and hooked up running water for all the comforts of home and a bit of recalibration.

Today we went to Canteen for a shared poke bowl lunch.  It is a great place to meet people… and we did.   We spoke for for quite a while to Dylan a cop from Hoboken and his wife Lisa who is a clothing designer in Manhattan.  Canteen though super casual, has some of the best food in town.  (Word is the cod banh mi is coming back too!)  We had a few froses to accompany the lunch before meeting back up with Dave and Susan for a good bye dinner at Front Street.

The weather is better. It’s time to leave the slip
